Our Services
We provide guidance on a wide range of issues, including auditing, charity, independent examination, corporate governance, tax efficient corporate structures, business planning and personal tax planning.
We want to help you add value, whether it be for your business or for your personal wealth or for your lifestyle plan.
Our Service Bundles
Here are some examples of the bundles of services that might fit with your requirements.
Please take a look below then come and discuss your choices with us.
YOU ARE IN BUSINESS AND YOU NEED AN ACCOUNTANT
We would be pleased to discuss your business needs with you so that you can decide whether you would like us to be your accountant. We will need to understand why you have not used an accountant before or why you feel you need to change accountants.
If you decide to come on board, we have a range of options for you. Think of them as:
The Assistant
We will review your software, make sure you are set up ok and make any recommendations we think could be useful.
You will do your own book keeping, VAT, payroll etc and we will keep an eye on you to make sure you do not miss things.
We will prepare your accounts, work out the tax and file your returns.
We will keep you informed of developments that may be relevant to you.
The Adviser
We will review your software, make sure you are set up ok and make any recommendations we think could be useful.
You will do your own book keeping, VAT and payroll. We will review and report to you every 3 months;
We will agree with you a regular series of meetings to talk about areas such as business development, profitability, risk management and tax planning;
We will keep you informed of technical or topical issues that may affect you and advise how these might affect your planning.
We will prepare your accounts, work out the tax and file your returns

These bundles are examples – we can add or take away services as required.
When you have decided what you want, we will agree a price, go through the formalities of engagement and then get started. Fees are paid monthly by standing order for an initial one year engagement, unless we agree otherwise.
ARE YOU STARTING UP IN BUSINESS?
We love start-ups and try to track them down whenever we can.
If you are just starting out, we would be more than happy to meet with you, talk about you, talk about your business and spend enough time with you free of charge to allow you to have a clear impression of whether we are the sort of accountants you would like to have looking after you.
You would then have access to our 3 main bundles at attractive start-up rates for your first year in business:
The Assistant
The Adviser
The Supporter and
The Standing Order
Because you are a start up we will discount our normal fees for you for the first two years to help you get going.
DO YOU NEED A CHARITY INDEPENDENT EXAMINER?
It may be that you are just getting near the threshold for the first time.
Or maybe you need to reappoint because your governing document requires you to rotate Examiner from time to time.
Or maybe you are just ready for a change or your Examiner is retiring.
Independent Examination is an area where we have particular expertise. Barrie is a member (and former Trustee) of the Association of Charity Independent Examiners. He would be pleased to talk to you about your charity and give you a quote for this service.
If you are at the top end of the Independent Examiner threshold, we are also a Registered Auditor
Normally, we quote for a minimum of three years for Independent Examination.
This is because all charities are different and there is a lot of groundwork in the first year to make sure we have sufficient understanding to do the job properly.
DO YOU NEED AN AUDIT?
If you know you need a statutory audit, then you will have heard this before – an audit is an audit is an audit.
What’s a bit different about us is that Barrie does all of the audit work. There’s no audit team with laptops and checklists. You get the boss from start to finish.
The other side of that is there are no friends, advisers or supporters. To preserve auditor independence we do not carry out added value services for audit clients.
Having said that, an audit risk assessment is a powerful tool and audit evidence can be used to assist your Board, for instance via the Letter of Comment.
If you need an audit that is not a statutory audit, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
If you need a report by a Statutory Auditor for a grant claim please continue reading below for our Independent Accountant’s Report for a Grant service.
DO YOU NEED AN ACCOUNTANTS REPORT FOR A GRANT?
We have years of experience of reporting under ISAE 3000 for grant funding from Innovate UK and the Welsh Government.
We can also provide similar assurance reports for other grant makers or donors, such as Charitable Trusts, Government Departments or corporate donors.
Please contact us to discuss your requirements. If possible, it is better to do this before the grant or donation has been made and before you start spending the money.
DO YOU WANT HELP WITH YOUR TAX RETURN?
Whether you are an individual, a partnership or a trust, we can deal with your UK tax return for you.
If you’re not quite satisfied with the service you are receiving elsewhere, please contact us to discuss the reasons why.
We also have the resources to keep abreast of what is coming over the hill, for instance in terms of HMRC’s digitisation of taxation services. We are keen to help you plan ahead to manage the risks of the increasingly rapid pace of change in tax.
If you’ve been doing your own returns, we can reassure you that we have the skills and the technology to take away that headache.
We are keen to help you plan ahead to manage the risks posed by these changes.
What happens next?
We will collect information that will help us to understand your needs and how you operate.
We will then provide a Management and Investment Summary which addresses the issues that have been identified.
