Just a numbers game
In a recent press release, HMRC have reported that 10.2 million people filed their 2020/21 tax return by the ‘usual’ deadline of 31 January.
This includes 630,000 who filed on 31 January itself – the peak filing period was 4 pm to 5 pm, when 52,475 people filed. More than 20,000 filed in the hour before midnight.
More than 12.2 million people were expected to file, leaving 2 million returns still outstanding. Remember we have until 28th February before later filing penalties kick in this year.
